All these years, my passion for basketball has never subsided. Once in a while, i'll visit the basketball court with a basketball in hand. I'll let the basketball interact with the basket, while my shoes aggressively kissing the floor.
I can still vividly recall those times when i roam the basketball courts with my basketball buddies during my secondary school times. We played the game on anywhere where there's a basketball court. However, we do have 3 places whereby we trained particularly: Kebun Bahru CC, Ang Mo Kio CC and one of the street courts in a park near Kebun Bahru CC. This street court is the place we called our secret training place. The floor of the court is constantly littered with dried leaves, branches. In those days, we do have some pia kias playing opposite us, but we never had a problem with them, while being friends with them.
This evening, I met Andy forthe game near his house. This is also a place i frequent often: Potong Pasir CC. Lovely place with some good players. However, upon reaching there at 7.15pm, we realised that the whole basketball court had been booked by a company for some kind of trainings for their upcoming tournament. Therefore, Andy brought me to another court, one which i had not seen nor play for years, dating back to my secondary school days.
The court still littered with dried leaves, branches. But this is not the one we i played years ago. This place is located in bradell. I'm of course excited. even thought the condition there isn't that great, the game is. After some shootings, we were in for a game, with some small ah bengs who seem like 17 or 18, with 1 wearing an ITE College West shirt.
The game went on for 11 points and of coue we won. The bengs wanted a second, and we gamed. Towards the last few points, they started playing VIOLENTLY, scolding vulgarities and in the end threw the ball at me.. lol.. u know what? It seems like years ago that i had last seen someone that is such a bad loser. Hmm... of course, i sensed the 'fire' burning and proceeded to take my basketball which i parked on the pole. Upon reaching my basketball, i felt another basketball hitting me hard. That was when i realsed the 2 round boys who look like bowling balls were trying to pick a fight on me. lol.. i grit my teeth with the intention of not getting into any involvement in fight with them. i gave up the game with them, with a last point to go, as i do not want a fight to happen. Moreover, even though they are only 16 or 17 or even 18, they have their 'head' with ang kongs standing some distances away but seems like they will come and join in if a fight broke out. Again, i grit my teeth, swallow my pride, i walked off. And what happen to Andy? He was still there trying to 'reason' with them.. lol... how can u reason with ah bengs? they wun be ah bengs if they can reason... they only noe about fights and sei at thet age... lol... i pulled andy away, and we both walked off... while on the other end, they hurled all sorts of dilect vigurities like chants or erm... lyrics of songs.. anyway, while walking off, the only thing on my mind is not to get involved in a fight now as i do not want any injuries, due to my test on this coming friday. I need to study right?
Hmmm... even though basketball is a game, and i always love winning while hating the other end product, this incident left me thinking...
Are these guys not game enough or do they lack moral etiquette (sportsmanship)?
U decide...
