How old is old?

Often, we singaporeans ar encouraged by our government to take public transport. If we see a lady with a big tummy, we recognised that she is pregnant, and therefore give up our seats for them.

If we see a person who is crippled, blind, etc, we also give up our seats tothem due to the dispairity.

However, something's been lingering in my mind for quite some time. How do we consider a person as old? Who should we give our seat to if we consider them old? And how do u justify that they are old?

LOL, you must be wondering why i bring up this topic. Well, this problem came up to me when i was in this mrt. I was standing reading my newpaper. there was this young couple, probably in the 15 or 16, playing the nintendo DS. Then, came this women who was heavily pregnant, and it was obvious due to the round tummy thats so convex. The young couple looked up but continued anyway. and this whole 2 stretches of sitting tua pek gong just dunno any thing abt giving up their seats. Maybe, they all failed their moral education when they were in schools, or maybe these guys were heavily pregnant as well?

There was this other scenario when i was standing, again, in the Mrt. I saw this lady, whom i think should be in her 70s but with black hair, presumably dyed. No one gave her a look, not to say give up their seats. She continued standing there, hunched. Then we reached the next station. In came another lady in her 50s but with a head full of white hairs. Immediately, a guy gave up his seat.

OMG... look!!! must an old lady be in white hair to be considered old?

Hmmm.. this really beats me.. perhaps, its time for our school system to change the pictures in the civic and moral education book. Not anymore should they draw an old lady with white hair as old, but probably a pic that defines old people as old. Coz, if i dye my hair, probably i'll get a seat too?

So, take a seat back when u take the public transport the next time. Be more willing to give up ur seat to people who look old but probably not in white hair.

Charm: Don't just blindly follow the book. You must be smart enough to differentiate!
